Test Results
August 27th, 2008 Posted in Internal MonologueMy stress test came back completely normal.
My thyroid test came back completely normal.
My latest blood work all came back completely normal.
My pulse was a little low (56?), but that’s probably just because I’m super laid back.
My doctor was going to let me go with a clean bill of health, but I explained that my heart palpitations are random and intermittent. A clean stress test might simply mean that I was fine during the specific nine minutes that I was being tested. It is nice that the tests have come back normal, but that may not necessarily mean that I am problem-free.
To be on the safe side - as I like to be when it comes to something like my heart - I am going in tomorrow afternoon (Thursday) to be fitted with a Holter monitor (capital H?). As explained to me, the Holter is basically a small machine that I wear for 24 hours that will record my heart’s activity over an extended period of time. Hopefully (… i guess?) my heart acts up during those 24 hours and the doctors will be able to see what exactly is going on.
Then, and hopefully finally, I am going in for an echocardiogram on Tuesday… my birthday. They will ultrasound my heart to make sure that the muscle and valves and other hearty goodness is all in order. I reasonably expect both of these tests to come back normal, leaving me with no explanation for the random heart fluttering beyond a simple case of anxiety - or some other mental instability.
For the time being I will be taking an Aspirin-a-day. You know, to keep the doctor away.
Or is that Apples?

Named after the dude that invented it, naturally.
Best case scenario: you catch the actual rhythm of your heart during one of your episodes. Insist on keeping it for a week until you get it and be sure to note the time it occurred. At least then a cardiologist will be able to see what’s going on.
