Whoa, it’s been a long time since I posted anything. Here’s what I’ve been up to…

FantasyBlueBook.com – check it out!

Over the past few weeks our website has undergone a pretty serious re-tooling. Our rate of new (and paid) subscriptions predictably took a dramatic fall once the NFL season began and fantasy players no longer needed a draft kit. Also predictably, our subscription rate is non-existent as we head into Week 7. To that end we decided to make a dramatic shift away from our early “low-traffic, high-conversion” plan and are now in a “high-traffic, low-conversion” mode. While we were originally showing off about 10% of our content for free while reserving the other 90% for paid members, our site has now reversed those numbers and we offer 90% of the content for free. Paid members have access to all of our customization options and future projections and valuations. Free users are locked into a predetermined set of options and are only able to see data from the past. The paid content is extremely valuable (in my opinion, of course), but by opening up our site we are better able to showcase what exactly we do.

You will also notice that we have shifted our focus to be heavy on the math and statistics and have all but eliminated our personal analysis. There are literally thousands of amateur websites pawning off their own fantasy advice and it seemed dumb to me to try and compete in that space. Instead of doing what everyone else does I thought it would be better to focus on what we do best… and that nobody else really does. The math. Our new site has been stripped down and our data has been beefed up. I personally think that it works a lot better now and solves a large number of problems that we were having before.

And while we’re talking about fantasy football Zurek wants me to mention that after six weeks I have a 2-4 record in BOTH of my leagues. Ugh…

It’s unbelievably frustrating. Every week I try and come up with some kind of trade that I might want to make, but I always end up realizing that I still really like my teams. During about half of my wins my team scored the highest points in the entire league. In most of my losses I scored in the top half or better, but was up against one of the week’s highest scorers. Meanwhile Lukas consistently scores among the lowest points in the league but is sitting at 5-1 because he always plays against the worst team of the week.

Seriously, fantasy sports is the worst.

Not counting byes and injuries here are my two teams’ starting lineups every week going forward:

QB: Donovan McNabb
RB: Steven Jackson
RB: Ronnie Brown
RB/WR: Marshawn Lynch
WR: Chad Ochocinco
WR: Wes Welker
TE: Jermichael Finley
OP: Carson Palmer
DST: Cincinnati Bengals
K: Lawrence Tynes
QB: Matt Schaub
QB: Carson Palmer
RB: Chris Johnson
RB: Marion Barber
RB/WR: Mike Sims-Walker
WR: Calvin Johnson
WR: Jerricho Cotchery
DST: Minnesota Vikings
K: Lawrence Tynes

I also have stupid Darren McFadden in both leagues.

Honestly, I love both of my teams. Too bad I don’t also love losing. Thanks to some seriously badly-timed injuries to Calvin Johnson, Cotchery, Barber, Welker, and DMC… oh and McNabb broke his ribs in Week 1 (cool) while Lynch was suspended for the first three weeks… I have put myself into a pretty bad hole going into the season’s second half. Hopefully this will be the exact opposite of my fantasy baseball season where my team completely dominated for the first 80% of the season and then ate huge amounts of shit down the stretch. Jesus, I still want to throw up when I think about that fall (nay, hellish descent) from seemingly certain grace.
