Edit #2: Boom! I fixed it. For the record the problem was stupid, as I expected. I had one setting in one place that was set to ‘../paypal/’ and needed to be ‘/paypal/’. Oh well, that’s the joy of computers, right?
Today I will be rebuilding the homepage and doing some random page tweaks, but the site is technically functional now and is up and open and hopefully being scoured by search engine spiders as we speak.
Edit: Ok, this is really frustrating. I have pretty much all the serious stuff taken care of, all I need to do is rewrite a few content pages (including the homepage… which I guess is kind of a biggie) and tweak a bunch of CSS to make the last random ugliness a bit more appealing. That should only take me a few hours so I’m not too concerned.
HOWEVER… I have been fighting with our subscription mechanism literally all day and night long. That’s all I’ve worked on over the past 24 hours. It’s 7am right now and I think I might just throw in the towel for a few hours while I grab some sleep. I finally managed to get the plans and pricing and subscription nonsense all sorted out, but now I am slamming my head against a wall built high with PayPal bricks and glued together with SSL mortar. I don’t know if it’s a webhost issue, a PayPal issue, or some annoying incorrect setting somewhere in between, but the whole nonsense is maddening. The dance that you must do to execute an encrypted handshake with PayPal is enough to make me actually miss the days when I had to write my own code to gather, process, and store a credit card transaction.
I am pretty sure this will end up being a fairly trivial fix in the end too. That’s how these things tend to go, and that isn’t helping with the frustration.
Ugh… another delay…
Seriously, it’s coming so so soon…
Neither of us our actually dead, as I claimed must be the case, but we both need to get some sleep before we collapse at our desks and break our keyboards with our foreheads. I’m thinking that it will be live sometime around Wednesday evening/night much more than Wednesday afternoon.
In fact, maybe you should just come by on Thursday…
