My Auction League had its draft on Thursday night, and once again the very tenuous plan that I had formed going into the draft was thoroughly destroyed during the opening rounds. I scrambled to make the best out of the chaos and in the end I think that I did well. My starting lineup is fairly devastating (for my opponents) but I have almost no depth whatsoever. In fact, within hours of the draft’s completion I had already worked a trade with Lukas to sacrifice individual domination for the sake of team breadth. I still have two more proposed trades in the works, and hopefully one of them will go through, but this is where my team stands at the moment:

Starting Lineup for the Donut Plains Banana Snipes
QB: Peyton Manning, Ind
RB: Clinton Portis, Was
RB: Earnest Graham, TB
RB/WR: Larry Fitzgerald, Ari
WR: T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Cin
WR: Jerricho Cotchery, NYJ
WR/TE: Ted Ginn Jr, Mia
TE: Tony Gonzalez, KC
D/ST: Colts, Ind
K: John Kasay, Car

Bench (mostly worthless $1 pickups)
Tony Scheffler, Den TE
Jerious Norwood, Atl RB
Sidney Rice, Min WR
Vince Young, Ten QB
Kolby Smith, KC RB
Kevin Walter, Hou WR
Jaguars D/ST
DeShaun Foster, SF RB
Warrick Dunn, TB RB

I originally had Andre Johnson, but traded him for both Cotchery and Graham. Had I managed to escape the draft with just one more starting running back (and therefore not needed to trade away Andre), my team would have been nearly unbeatable. As it stood I somehow managed to land a top-2 quarterback, a top-5 running back, three of the top six wide receivers, and two of the top five tight-ends.

Even giving back a little bit in the trade I still think my team is odds on favorite to win the league. Of course, (over-) confidence has never been a problem for me.
