While every headline screams of despair and impending doom I quietly stumbled across this exciting piece of news. I suppose this doesn’t fall into the category of Revolutionary Idea, rather it feels to be a Next Logical Step, but as the technology is now on the verge of becoming part of our everyday lives I find the news particularly awesome.

The chips … could be used for a wide variety of applications ranging from putting music samples on the outside of a CD case to storing a patient’s entire medical record on a dot-sized section of a wrist band.
… or …
One example is a movie poster that contains a short trailer of the film. Someone could walk up to the poster, touch it with their cell phone and watch and listen to the trailer right there.
A would-be executive could record his or her entire resume on a business card, an aspiring model could include a portfolio of photos and a musician could have a sample set of tunes on a card or embedded into a paper resume.
I find this particularly amusing as well because it is a slightly different incarnation of an idea that some friends and I came up with as part of an independent study at Northwestern – Create a system of portable, short-range wireless broadcasts that can be picked up and displayed by users’ cell phones and PDAs. For instance, a storefront could launch a broadcast indicating today’s sales and specials to the casual passersby on the street. A movie theater could broadcast the trailers and show times of its movies. Etcetera etcetera. I thought it was a pretty good idea at the time (four years ago) but my group and I decided to make a stupid web-based video game instead.
Oh well.
