I am playing poker on my computer while half-heartedly watching tv, specifically a show called Hooking Up. I just wanted to write a quick note because the show is ridiculous. Or if not the show, the “average and everyday” people they have on certainly are. People are matched through an online dating service and then the cameras watch as they start their new relationships. 15 minutes into the show the unattractive woman and the unattractive man disappear into the bedroom and close the door. Camera cut to the overly-excited woman giving her Real World interview.

“I can’t believe tomorrow will be a week. Tomorrow I will have known him for a whole week. I really think he is The One.”

Two days later…

Talking to her sister about breaking up with him… “Well, I can have sex with him a few more times, right?”

Later that afternoon…. “Well it’s all my fault. I let it go too fast, too soon and now I’m stuck trying to get out of it. I’m really bad at that. He’s starting to… get on my nerves.”

Then she breaks up with him via email and remarks to the camera, “Well, back on the dating trail.”

What a classy broad.

The next woman (who describes herself as looking for love and eager for marriage) is at dinner with her new man when she gets a text message. Within ten minutes she ditches the guy to have a booty call with some other dude.

My other favorite quotes so far:
- do people think you’re gay?
- are you sure you really like girls?
- maybe if i sleep with him, i’ll get to the “real him”

What a great show.
