As an update on my previous entry, it would probably have been best if I hadn't bought any of the games at all. This weekend I took it upon myself to step up and invest some quality time into the games I had recently purchased. Overall, the time can best be characterized as 'painful'. I played through quite a lot of Jak 2 and during only a few fleeting moments did I experience what might be described as 'fun'. I don't really want to get into it, because, well… I'm sure you dont care. But if you are somehow thinking about buying the game for a friend or something… just don't. Probably the worst part of Jak 2 is that I fully intend on playing it some more tonight. I just want to beat the goddamn thing, no matter how crappy the gameplay is… I want to beat it.

Taking breaks from Jak I played some Call of Duty: United Offensive on my computer. It is the first expansion for what was probably the best computer game to be released within the past two years. Parts of the original greatness are in United Offensive, but those terrific parts are often hard to notice because of the overwhelming amount of bullshit. Yes, developers, I understand your point: War is hell and a lot of people died in WWII. That's cool and all, but your game doesnt have to continuously and senselessly kill my character. It is hard to complete any kind of objective when I can't stay alive for 2 minutes at a time.

I also threw in a bit of Myst 4: Revelation to mix up the action. Myst is a puzzle/adventure game on the computer. Again, I imagine that this game would be a whole lot of fun if it wasn't insanely difficult. A few reviews of Myst 4 include such accurate descriptions of the puzzles as “like putting together a jigsaw puzzle in the dark.” Basically, in order to advance through the story I have to solve a bunch of puzzles and logic games. The problem is that there is no way of knowing what a particular puzzle even is, how it works, what I am supposed to be doing, or why I should be doing it. For example, the power is off. I know I need to turn the power on. So…. what the fuck.

A lot of screaming and profanity, often times in combination, ensued.
