There are just under two weeks until the NFL season begins and website business has significantly improved. At this point all of our new subscribers are people that we don’t know, and it is exciting to wake up each morning and check my inbox to see how many more subscriptions we sold.

I had a small personal triumph yesterday, too, when I got Daniel Negreanu to sign up for our website. I follow his blog over at FullContactPoker.com and yesterday he mentioned that he was getting ready for his big fantasy football draft. I post on their forums from time to time so I took the opportunity to recommend that he take a look at our website if he gets a chance. It was a shot more or less in the dark; I figured that leaving a quick note on a forum couldn’t hurt. Amazingly, a few hours later I got a paypal payment confirmation in his name. He actually replied to my post too, saying:

Wow site looks cool ty

I realize that he is just one person, and not a terribly powerful or important person at that… but he’s famous and popular and now he’s a subscriber to FantasyBlueBook. Lukas doesn’t seem to care much and brushed it off with his typical cynicism. “The dude’s a millionaire and he spent a whole 15 dollars on us.” I’m not really sure what else he is expecting though. Daniel paid the maximum possible; who cares how much money he has otherwise? Plus, it took me two minutes to write a post that already made us at least fifteen dollars more than we would have otherwise.

My geeky poker fandom aside, though, according to his blog…

The plan is to go to Barcelona, then if I bust come home for our Fantasy Football draft which is going to be televised this year. On the 11th I’ll also be taking a shot at the WCOFF (World Championship of Fantasy Football) at the MGM.

From a personal business standpoint that is pretty exciting. His draft is being televised (no idea where, though ESPN or FSN is my guess) and he is also playing in a $5,000 buy-in league at the MGM… and we are (presumably) among his primary source of fantasy information. I am tempted to send him a FantasyBlueBook t-shirt or patch or something, but that might be pushing it. However, if he likes our site and/or manages to actually do well this season there is a tremendous opportunity for free advertising here. Daniel has a big mouth and I imagine that he would be quick to tell people – on camera or otherwise – if our site really proves useful. I am suddenly more self-conscious of my work on the site, acutely aware that the website quality must now speak for itself. Yeah, that was true for all our anonymous subscribers as well… but suddenly everything is starting to feel more real.

  1. good luck on your endever. my horse ran third. i didn’t know how he would handle the mud and slop at saratoga, but when i saw him buck the rider off while refusing to get into the starting gate i knew i was screwed. i had already bet though i pissed away 200. but i think the horse quality road will win it back for me in the breeders cup classic, because i still believe that he is the best horse out there right now. hang tough is always my moto. uncle daryl
