My mom is the first to admit that she “doesn’t do mornings.” That said, this morning she was running late for work but strangely didn’t seem to care. Upon noticing the clock on the wall her initial panic gave way to confusion. “Wait, it’s 7:45?!” Indeed it was; her train was leaving in ten minutes. As we sped off towards the train station she gave my day a happy start as she turned to me and casually asked, “Did the power go out last night? My watch says it’s only ten minutes until 2.”

I came across the trailer for an upcoming game called Portal while reading Penny Arcade today. Somehow this is the first I’ve heard of it. That’s pretty strange considering how amazing this game looks to be. If you have the time/bandwidth I recommend the high-res version of the trailer found here.
Update: I just learned that Portal was announced only one week ago. I feel slightly less lame for having not heard of it sooner.

that game does look pretty sweet.
those stands with guns remind me of HL and HL2.

Yeah, it runs on the Half-Life engine.

how is anything in the game impossible if you can potentially link any two spots together with a portal?

Yeah, the first thing from the static cutscreen that I saw, was this clearly looks like it’s running on the HL engine. The vid looks just like it, gravity gun but with portal action.
Certainly there will be some things that you can’t do in the game, you have to obviously be able to have line of sight to make the first shot, which is where you port to. I’m sure there is 50 other puzzling ways to use it as well that we haven’t seen yet.
