CATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i am so happy.

ummmm…. wow. But yes, I adopted two cats-slash-kittens this weekend from a local animal sanctuary. It was hard for me to pick from a number of equally deserving caged beasts, but there happened to be a pair of twin seven-month old girls who had been living in their cages for longer than most. The sisters were quite attached to one another and the shelter would not separate them. In addition to the difficulty in finding a prospective owner with the interest in a double adoption was the reality of the current economy – the combination of which made it that much more unlikely that they would find a home. I really didn’t have a choice. I came in looking for one cat, but Fate gave me two.

Meet Zylo and Makar. It took a few days to settle on the names and I’m sure it will take a few more to get used to them. Technically they are both boys’ names, but they are bizarre enough that it won’t bother me. I named them after two of my favorite video game characters of all time, though hopefully the references are obscure enough to keep me from appearing a poser to any degree.

MakarFOOLISH LITTLE MAKAR!!! – the tiny little woodland creature from The Wind Waker whose reckless thirst for adventure lands him in trouble, lost in the Forbidden Woods.

Zylo He is the tightest, most awesome character in Shining Force: the tightest, most awesome game for the Sega Genesis.

His attacks are so awesome too! He jumps into the air and BAM – he slashes the enemy with his mighty claws!

The names are pretty accurate in representing their personalities as well. Makar is a little bit crazy and overly adventurous, sprinting out into new rooms of the house only to suddenly stop, panic, and then sprint back to safety. Zylo tends to hide a lot more, and once she comes out her movements are a lot more sporadic and fast. She sits perfectly still… and then POUNCES!!

Both of the cats are still fairly overwhelmed by the new house and spend a lot of time hiding in my closet or under the bed. I tried to take a few pictures tonight, but they move so quickly that it’s difficult to set anything up. I took eighteen pictures, but only six or seven were at all usable. I’ll try to get some better ones later. Nearly all of the individual shots are of Zylo… Makar is the smaller of the two and apparently she doesn’t like to have her picture taken. She’s in the second photo, sniffing Eric’s space heater. She’s also the one pulling the Spider-Man move trying to get at my brother’s jar of coins.

4 people care
