The day went as I expected, despite hoping for something better. I folded my first two hands and then, with only 8 big blinds to my stack, the action was folded to me. I looked down and found a suited Ace-Six and moved in. The small blind folded (he claimed Ace-Ten) but the big blind woke up to pocket tens. My hand didn’t improve and I went out in 12th place. I cashed for $3300, which is nice but still kinda sucks relative to how dominant I was for the vast majority of yesterday’s session.

I don’t think that I can really fault my play today, as far as I’m concerned my move was almost purely automatic. It just sucks that when the situation gets desperate I seem to run into some pretty bad luck. At the circuit event I played at Bally’s I lost because I moved all-in with pocket sixes and, oh what do you know, the blind wakes up with jacks. I guess that I could have folded and hoped for a better spot, but my gameplan going into the day was to move early and hope for the best. There was no real value to waiting out another person since the next pay jump wasn’t going to occur until three more of the twelve players were eliminated. I couldn’t realistically hope to survive much longer without making a move.

Anyways, it was a sad ending to an otherwise great event. I am two for two when it comes to real tournaments ($300+ buyins), so that at least feels good. It is also nice to have my poker bankroll recharged by $3000; now I can afford to play some more 3-5 without having to first rebuild at 1-2. I might also use some of that money to play some WSOP satellites when the real tournament starts up on June 1st. I haven’t decided yet, but if I could play and win one of those satellites it would be cool to have parlayed my $550 into a $10,000 Main Event entry.

Really, who knows? Right now I am all poker’d out. But it is pretty safe to assume that I’ll be back on the felt soon enough.

  1. Congrats, though we really expected that since we didn’t hear from you then you were still at the table when we went to bed.

Guess now you can afford that friendly home game when you visit next week, huh?
